Demonstration garden

Firdale Court

The Edmonds College Horticulture Department needed an overhaul for their demonstration garden, just south of the classroom buildings. Wedged between high fences of shade cloth at the baseballs fields to the east and a line of tall trees to the west, the space had been used for small school projects and demonstrations, which left the design incomplete and in many ways unusable.

This design achieved what the staff envisioned:

  • Formal design style that matches campus

  • A small amphitheater for dedicated outdoor classroom space

  • A mix of plantings for wide range of educational options: deciduous and evergreen plantings; full sun to full shade; perennial and annual plantings; as well as potted plants and food crops
  • Clear sight lines for campus security

  • ADA Accessibility
