Public Space
The Memorial Garden
This garden was designed for a public space serving as a memorial for lost loved ones. The focal piece was as existing upright statue that was given as a gift: modern, sleek and black. Traffic on the surrounding pathways and limited access to utilities posed the key constraints to this project.
This design achieved the following:
-
Clear sight lines from existing street lights at either end, and open understory for heightened security
-
ADA accessibility
-
Native plantings that are drought-tolerant
-
A subtle gradient from existing native plants in the east, including vine maple and Oregon grape, to new additions in the west, like staghorn sumac and Corsican hellebore.
-
Four season interest, with spring and summer blooms, fall color, and even some persisting snowberries and winter flowers
